Online business newbies and seasoned veterans alike sometimes need to be reminded that more than anything, Technology is just the glue that holds our ideas together, the channel through which information is delivered and the platform on which we interact with many new businesses and most of all, people.
With that in mind, here are five basic ideas to keep in mind when using Technology:
1. Don’t be afraid.
Just because you don’t know it, doesn’t mean you need to feel intimidated. Instead, know what you want to accomplish and work from there. Be honest with yourself about your needs. This will help you set goals and avoid unrealistic expectations.
2. You don’t need to be a techie to run a successful online business.
What you do need are strong business ideas, realistic expectations and a great team of people to help you.
3. Partner with the right talent.
Do the people you’re working with have the right mix of enthusiasm, can-do attitude, knowledge and experience? Assemble a team that will be able to take your business to the next level and fill in the gaps in your own knowledge about Technology.
4. Know yourself, know your models.
How your business will work on the Internet depends on how your business works in real life. Will you sell something directly to another business (B2B)? Directly to a customer? (B2C) Will you use social networks to build buzz? Will you use time-sensitive offers to entice your audience? How will your product stand up against and stand out from the other companies who are already using similar models? Innovate, don’t copy.
5. Try it.
The best way to learn how new Technology works is to try it. If it works, you’ve got it. If it doesn’t, try something else. Become comfortable. Don’t worry about breaking things. Chances are, you won’t.
6. Back it up!
No matter what you build online, always back it up.
